Operators' roles

A CMDB is a system used by complex organizations to manage data and processes, supported by reports, dashboards, synchronization connectors with external systems and other tools.

The roles involved depend on the characteristics of each organization and on how CMDBuild is used. Examples include:

  • asset manager, change manager, helpdesk, job expert, server expert in IT management
  • technical office, maintenance technician, energy manager in Facility Management
  • other roles, depending on the configuration and customization of CMDBuild

It is essential to correctly identify roles and accurately profile users to ensure that each operator works on the relevant items according to established procedures.

Features of the Data Management Module

The Data Management Module interface allows operators to perform all daily Asset Management activities.

Depending on their role, operators can:

  • consult and update data related to assets (items and hierarchies according to the applicable domain) and related entities such as companies, employees, buildings, customers, suppliers, orders and more
  • carry out their activities according to company processes, supported by dedicated collaborative workflows
  • perform control activities using dashboards and printing configured reports

The main features of the Data Management Module include:

  • consultation and update of cards:
    • insertion, creation, modification and cloning of cards
    • master–detail view
    • consultation, creation and modification of relations among cards
    • consultation of card change history
    • upload and consultation of documents attached to cards, with the possibility to populate metadata based on document category
    • export and printing of cards, with column selection and row filtering
    • printing of the current card with its relations
  • advanced card management features:
    • searches using criteria or previously saved filters
    • contextual menus
    • scheduler
    • data import/export
    • bulk modification and deletion
    • relation graph view
    • consultation of assets on cartography, vector maps and 3D models
  • process management:
    • consultation and search
    • start and progression using the provided widgets
  • dashboards:
    • consultation of configured graphs and monitoring of related KPIs
  • reports:
    • printing of reports (tabular, graphical, document-based and more)
  • other features:
    • change of group / change of tenant
    • password change
    • user preferences
    • chat for communication with other users

Base and application features

This manual describes the basic user interface features of the CMDBuild Management Module, used by operators to view and modify data. The screenshots shown refer to a limited and simplified CMDBuild configuration aimed at managing a set of IT assets.

This configuration must not be confused with CMDBuild READY2USE, openMAINT or other customized applications developed for specific operational areas.
